It is envisioned that a commercial development called Asia Terrace will grow up around the Garden and Cultural Center.
The Birmingham Chinese Garden and Asian Cultural Center could be the catalyst for the "Asia Terrace" redevelopment of the Green Springs corridor that extends from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) campus to the city limit with Homewood. This transformation might be accelerated if the city of Birmingham extends the Midtown Redevelopment Zone to include Green Springs Highway to Homewood and declares that area an Asian Cultural District.
It is hoped that a partnership among The Birmingham Chinese Garden - Asian Cultural Center Foundation, the city of Birmingham, individuals or corporate land donors, and commercial developers can design and build this development to reflect the Asian character of the district.

It is even possible to imagine a business-residential mix that will draw Asians and non-Asians to Asia Terrace because of its unique character and proximity to the city center.
